AcronymaXtm is a C++ library for high-performance, high-quality extraction and tagging of acronym/definition pairs in a natural language text. AcronymaXtm will detect acronyms and corresponding definitions in any alphabetic language, although it strives to include specific provisions for English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian.

AcronymaXtm is distributed as a Windows DLL that you can use from any language, such as C++, C#, or Java. The latest version is 1.0beta.

AcronymaXtm uses a variation of the search algorithm described by Kazem Taghva and Jeff Gilbreth: in the source Unicode text, it determines the tokens that most probably represent acronyms and searches for definitions in the vicinity of those acronyms. The results returned to your application allow you to tag the acronym/definition pairs or build a database of definitions. AcronymaXtm continues to improve daily and in the future versions will include a reverse harvester of acronyms to help find the more creative acronym definitions and a rule-based system to find the abbreviations that technically aren't acronyms, but are widely used in specific areas such as medicine and biology.
